Review of Air Raid - "Something Awful"

GUTTER-MINDED DEATH METAL MISFITS

By: Geoff Teach

Here in my hometown of Chicago, it has been an interesting year for metal releases. While the quantity that was initially expected has thus far come up a little short, conversely, the quality of the albums that have already hit the streets has been phenomenal; and on September 1st, Chicago's gutter-minded death metal misfits Air Raid will add their latest album, Something Awful (Independent), to the growing list of excellent releases spawned here in The City of Big Shoulders in 2016.

Something Awful is a raucous, tongue-in-cheek collection of Death-inspired tracks that cover topics ranging from mass suicide to man-made monstrosities. Comprised of eight impressive tracks, Air Raid's new full-length is an amusingly entertaining CD filled with furious death metal virtuosity and cunning societal remonstration.

Some of the best offerings from Something Awful include a funky foray into the mind of a killer, "Dethoholic", the gross and engrossing tale, "Helium Hard-On", "AIDS Bullet", and my personal favorite, "GHFBLTC", a song that details God's love for a certain region of the male anatomy.

All in all, Air Raid's Something Awful is a bad-ass album, chock full of sickening hilarity and musical mastery, so be sure to support this awesome act by ordering yourself a copy of Something Awful once it is officially available on September 1st!
