Review of Sewercide - "Immortalized in Suffering"
MELBOURNE MALEVOLENCE
By: Geoff Teach
Australia...to the average American, the word probably conjures images of kangaroos, Crocodile Dundee, or perhaps the curved façade of the Sydney Opera House. But to us metal-heads, Australia is also the birthplace of killer acts like Deströyer 666, Psycroptic, Circles, and Ne Obliviscaris, among many others. And now, aspiring to add their name to the Honor Roll of Aussie Metal have come Melbourne’s filthy death metal trio, Sewercide. Crawling straight out of the gutter with their dirty and dank sound, Sewercide is grimy and downright nasty death metal from Down Under.
After spending the last five years building a solid reputation through live shows and split releases, Sewercide is now ready to release their debut full-length, Immortalized in Suffering, on Unspeakable Axe Records. Due out on June 13th, Immortalized in Suffering is a rank and raucous ride through the recesses of Melbourne’s most verminous trenches; and the nine tracks contained therein are a magnificently malodorous homage to old-school death metal, whose rough and gory edges are on full display throughout this excellent release.
Slathered in muck and slime, some of the more murderously good tracks on Sewercide’s Immortalized in Suffering including the fiercely furious “A Dying Dream”, the first single “Snares of Carnality”, the sludgier “Pierced with Sentient Trepidity”, and my personal favorite, “Megalithic Tomb”. All in all, Immortalized in Suffering is an awesome debut from Australian death metallers Sewercide – and their label, Unspeakable Axe, has yet again brought another fantastic act to the ears of the world's metal-heads. Good on ya, mates! This shit is rippah!
