Review of Crisix - "From Blue to Black"
NO BALDERDASH! IT'S SPANISH THRASH!
By: Geoff Teach
Just as it is difficult for North American acts to spread their music across the pond, the reverse is also true. While American and Canadian bands vie for the attention of every European ear possible, their European counterparts are similarly working off their collective asses to circulate their wares to as many North American ears as they can. Although the days of cheap and easy overseas tape trading may be long gone, here in the 21st century, we thankfully have the modern wonder that is the internet; and if combed hard enough, a wealth of fantastic international acts can be dug up for your pleasure and enjoyment.
Beyond any doubt, such is precisely the case for Barcelona, Spain’s Crisix, whom I stumbled across completely by accident while mindlessly scrolling our beloved interwebs. This past Friday, these Spanish thrash badasses released their third full-length studio effort, From Blue to Black (Listenable Records), and while this phenomenal act may be virtually unknown on North American soil, From Blue to Black just might be the album to put Crisix on the stateside map.
Crisix's From Blue to Black is nine breakneck tracks of vulgar speed metal that is capable of melting faces and snapping spines all over the planet. Every song is fast, loud, and in-your-face thrash apt to bang the heads of even the most nitpicky metal aficionados. Some of the tastiest treats From Blue to Black has to offer include the opener “Conspiranoia”, “G.M.M. (The Great Metal Motherfucker)”, “T-Terror Era” (my personal favorite), the title track “From Blue to Black”, and “Five as One”. Sounding like a European hybrid of Warbringer and Lazarus A.D., Crisix are primed to conquer the international metal scene - but this can only happen if people like you, my beloved readers, get your ears on this amazing shit as fast as your fingers can fly. So go on, tickle that play button on the embedded video below and hear for yourself what I’m raving about. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
