Review of I Chaos - "Masterbleeder"

By: Geoff Teach

Punishing, extreme death metal is on the rise across the globe. Whether you enjoy American acts like Abiotic or Origin, Poland’s Decapitated, or maybe even Algeria’s Lelahell, there is no shortage of wickedly heavy tech death for modern ears to choose from, no matter where you’re from. Calling the Netherlands home, I Chaos are seeking to add their death metal offerings to your playlist with their second full-length album, Masterbleeder.

The Dutch quartet has been crafting their own blend of thrashing, intense death metal since 2009. Although relatively unknown here in the States, Europe has been breaking their necks to I Chaos since 2011’s The Human Repellent. Now, I Chaos hope to bring their commoving sound across the pond to a wider audience with the release of Masterbleeder.

Featuring ten tracks of rip-roaring pandemonium, Masterbleeder gets going right off the hop with one of my favorite tracks, “Waking Hell”. Instantly, I Chaos introduce you to their brutal tendencies, with scads of blast beats, gruff vocals, and tumultuous fret work. Moving along in Masterbleeder, other favorites of mine include “Ills of Flesh”, “Blinding Bias”, and “Glorious Defeat”, a stellar, five minute song that undulates and buries itself directly into your metal-loving soul.

Not flashy or fancy, I Chaos’s Masterbleeder is a solid album that will slide nicely into any death metal playlist on this side of the Atlantic or the other. Be sure to swing by I Chaos’s pages (links provided below) and order yourself a copy today.
