Review of Black Fast - "Terms of Surrender"
MID-MAJOR MAYHEM
By: Geoff Teach
Noticeably faster than most of their thrash metal counterparts, St. Louis’s Black Fast seem to have taken a page from the Goatwhore playbook and have gone balls out with their driving, furious sound. A few weeks back, the quartet from “The Lou” released their mid-major debut on eOne Heavy, Terms of Surrender, and, just like Goatwhore, Black Fast are hitting the road hard and heavy to support their new material. Currently touring with Revocation, Cannabis Corpse, and Archspire, Black Fast are making all the right moves to get their music out there, and once you’ve heard it, you’re likely to understand why.
Infectious and invigorating, Terms of Surrender is nine tracks of aggression, crunch, and speed thrash – everything a growing metal-head needs. Black Fast have released an album that loudly and boldly states their energetic presence to the world, and although nine songs sounds sparse, Terms of Surrender is still full-length and chock full of great music.
Highlights from Terms of Surrender include the brilliantly written “To Propagate the Void”, “Tongues of Silver”, “I Conspire”, “Haunted Vigil”, and my personal favorite, “The Fall”, whose dynamics and composition are a joy to behold. Be sure to pick up a copy of Terms of Surrender at your local music purveyor’s, as Black Fast’s debut is available nationwide.
