Review of Blood Tribe - "Infernal Acts of Man" EP

INDEPENDENT INSANITY

By: Geoff Teach

Indiana might be boring to drive through (and malodorous if you’re near Gary), but as of late, the same cannot be said of the Hoosier State’s metal community. From better known acts like Aegaeon and Gorgasm to lesser known up-and-comers like Testimony and The Room Colored Charlatan, Indiana’s current metal scene is strong, diverse, and gaining more and more attention every day.

Looking to add their name to the list of well-known Indiana metal acts are Evansville’s Blood Tribe, who have recently released Infernal Acts of Man (Dark Harvest Records), a six track EP who’s production and potency seem to scream “We’re HERE!”. Intense, ensnaring, and occasionally thought-provoking, Blood Tribe have put out a striking album that is as punishing as it is ambitious.

Infernal Acts of Man opens almost innocuously with the beginning of “Bring Forth the Apocalypse” and its beautifully foreboding piano introduction, but no sooner does the piano stop than you almost forget that you ever heard it, as the crushing, Kataklysm-like death metal blasts in. “Bring Forth the Apocalypse” is one hell of an opening track, and it is definitely one of my favorites.

Next, tracks like “Extinguished After the Sterilization” and “The Days Grow Black” keep your attention firmly set, but it is the punitive power of “Darkest Behind the Light” that has your humble music critic in an absolute tizzy. Blood Tribe seems to have channeled Unique Leader’s Acrania with “Darkest Behind the Light”, as this track utterly kicks ass from raucous start to tumultuous finish. It is far and away the sickest track on the EP.

Closing out this solid-as-steel release with “Nectoria” and the astounding “The End in Fire”, Blood Tribe’s Infernal Acts of Man is decidedly one of early 2015’s finest releases, and I cannot stress enough how much I suggest you put your ears to it as soon as is humanly possible.

KEEP IT METAL! \m/
