MID-MAJOR MAYHEM

Cannibal Corpse...what is there to say about the Floridian death metal legends that hasn’t already been said? Since 1988, the band has been shocking and stunning audiences everywhere with their lyrics, album art, subject matter, and downright brutal music. While some may say that the band has “toned down” in their later years, the impending September 16th release of “A Skeletal Domain” (Metal Blade Records) should challenge those who support this theory. Featuring twelve songs awash in horrific imagery, blast beaten carnage, and cacophonous chaos, Cannibal Corpse has shown the world that while they have aged, they certainly haven’t mellowed one tiny fucking bit.

Thusly, “A Skeletal Domain” doesn’t let up. Not even once. From the sudden and ear-splitting start of “High Velocity Impact Spatter” to the final riffs of “Hollowed Bodies”, Cannibal Corpse keeps bringing the intensity. Some of the finest tracks on the effort include the balls-to-the-wall “Sadistic Embodiment”, “A Skeletal Domain”, “The Murderer’s Pact”, and my favorites, “Icepick Lobotomy” and “Asphyxiate to Resuscitate”. With no shortages of intensity or frightful frivolity, Cannibal Corpse has once again reminded us of why we have always vehemently celebrated old-school Florida death metal. “A Skeletal Domain” may not have the same grotesque ring to it as “Gallery of Suicide” or “Butchered at Birth”, but the music itself is still just as crushing, blood-curdling, and concussive. I fully recommend heading to the band’s websites and pre-ordering this killer album...and don’t forget to pick up the bundle that includes “Bible of Butchery”, the new pictorial biography of Cannibal Corpse written by none other than John McIver, author of “Justice for All: The Truth about Metallica”!

Keep it metal, class dismissed!
