LOCAL LUNACY

By: Geoff Teach

Never let it be said that Chicago’s three-piece grindcore outfit, Everything Must Die, is prone to screwing around. Always to the point with not only their lyrics but also their songs, Everything Must Die is soon releasing their latest “full-length” effort, “Fuck Your God”. Comprised of eight tracks that take a mere nine minutes and forty-two seconds to listen to, “Fuck Your God” is replete with quick compositions that are as direct as they are heavy. Featuring stellar production and performances, Everything Must Die’s expeditious album is one that begs to be listened to at full volume, even if it takes less time to do so than it usually takes the average American to buy car insurance from a gecko.

Tackling topics that range from rolling rape wagons, workplace violence, and corpses in the lavatory, “Fuck Your God” possesses song titles and lyrics that are certainly not for the squeamish or the humorless. With alternating tones of screams bellowing out from all three members, cuts such as “Postal”, “Holy Shit” (the longest song on the effort, at one minute and forty-six seconds), and “Bring on the War” stand out as the finest efforts on the collection, while others such as “High on Satan”, “Rape Van”, and the title track, “Fuck Your God”, are rife with tight, incessantly heavy riffs and rhythms. Although probably not winning the band any points with their local religious communities, Everything Must Die’s “Fuck Your God” is definitely a strong release from one of the heaviest grindcore trios you may ever hear.
