MID-MAJOR MAYHEM

Badassery is all around you, all you need do is look vigilantly and listen intently for it, and its crushing, complicated music will find your ears eventually. Out of the closes and narrowed streets of London, England, Acrania is about to unleash their masterful debut album, “Totalitarian Dystopia” with Unique Leader Records, and I envision metal heads the world over soon going nuts over this release. Truly I tell you, Acrania’s blending of influences such as Wormed, Dying Fetus, Abiotic, and Archspire is a wondrous sound to behold, and their vacillating, dominating compositions are punitively contusive. Acrania may be new to many ears on our side of the pond currently, but I don’t think that that will be the case for very much longer, for as soon as “Totalitarian Dystopia” is released Stateside on August 19th, I predict wildfire-like spreading through the internet and word-of-mouth, far and wide. So hold on to your butts, folks, and allow me to present you with Exhibit A, the ass-kicking first released track (track two of the ten song release), “Festering With Dishonesty”:
Now, I’m quite sure upon hearing this that your appetites for more are now ravenous, but for now, you also need a breather while you can get one, as Acrania does not really relent much for the entire release. Tracks such as “Totalitarian Dystopia” and “Servants of Hypocrisy” see to this well, however, the instrumental “Survival Sequence” is just enough of the required respite, as the next track is six minutes and twenty two seconds of utter brutality and break-neck changes of pace. “A Gluttonous Abomination” is by far the finest track on the effort, but for further proof, please witness it for yourself. Exhibit B, “A Gluttonous Abomination”:
Such a pummeling, and yet, there are still many more stunners to go. Finishing up strong, tracks such as “Susceptible to Retinal Reprogrammability”, “Lobotomise, Dehumanise, Negate”, and “Disillusion in a Discordant System” are, each and every one, brutal and bruising in their own way, and I honestly cannot help but think that Acrania will definitely make some “Best of 2014” lists this year with this release. Do yourself a solid and pre-order a copy today!
Keep it metal, class dismissed!
